John Bidwell – vocals, dobro, lap steel guitars John began his lap-style slide guitar playing in 1990 as a student of world renowned dobro players Sally Van Meter and Rob Ickes. Motivated by these outstanding slide guitarists and the emotional richness that a slide guitar evokes, John has actively experimented with a number of lap slide guitars and tunings to be able to add a unique texture to each piece in Don’t Look Back’s repertoire. By day, John is a consultant with Quantum Consulting in Berkeley, California, serving the electric utility and energy efficiency industries. Prior to his current job, he ran his own adventure travel consulting business, which tells you what he does in his spare time, when he’s not playing his dobro of course. |

Brian Bloom – vocals, guitar, mandolin Brian agrees wholeheartedly with Duke Ellington’s observation that there are only two types of music: good and bad. Constantly poking around in the nooks and crannies of American music, Brian brings a diverse mix of songs to the group, from little know hillbilly jazz gems of the 1930’s to more contemporary singer-songwriter fare. His solid rhythm guitar playing is essential to the DLB groove, and he cuts a fine lead too. An Alameda County Public Defender by day, Brian especially enjoys singing tales of sin and redemption, and of justice redeemed. He has two lovely children, Ruby and Arlo. His wife, Suzanna is an Ultimate Frisbee player and a psychologist. |

He is also CFO of The Asia Foundation, an international development non-profit based in San Francisco. Dale Scott – stand up bass, bass guitar Dale’s introduction to acoustic music came at an early age via his grandfather who led his own string orchestra. Dale’s first instrument was a mandolin which ended up as shovel in his sandbox. It was quickly determined that he needed a few more years of seasoning. Guitar came next, followed quickly by bass guitar in junior high. Dale has played in many rock, R&B and country bands over the years but finally made the switch to stand up bass and to acoustic music in 2004 -- and he hasn’t looked back. Dale’s wife April, and his children Aaron and Alison support him fully and enjoy the benefits of living in a musical household |
